2013 Ford Fusion

The 2013 Ford Fusion Sprint Cup car, unveiled Tuesday as part of NASCAR’s media tour, was worked on by Ford designers in an effort to bring brand identity back to the sport. The result is undeniable with the 2013 Sprint Cup car mirroring the recently unveiled 2013 Ford Fusion production car.

Featuring a completely redesigned sleek new silhouette and fresh face, the 2013 Fusion Sprint Cup car was designed to be the face of a new era of stock car racing.

“We wanted Fusion to be the car that helped return ’stock car’ to NASCAR,” Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing said. “I think fans, when they see the car, are just going to smile and cheer. It is going to reengage them with the sport and make the sport better because there is just something natural about seeing race cars that look like cars in their driveways.”

This marks the third time Ford simultaneously launched production and NASCAR versions of a new model. The first dual launch came in 1968, with the sleek fastback Ford Torino. NASCAR Hall of Fame driver David Pearson drove the Torino to back-to-back Cup Series championships in 1968 and 1969. The second time came in 2006, when the then newly introduced Ford Fusion appeared in showrooms and on the track.

Ford took a different approach with the development of the 2013 Fusion racer. Ford Design Center staff, led by Garen Nicoghosian, and Ford aerodynamicist Bernie Marcus, spent the past year doing the early design development, freeing up the Ford race teams to concentrate on weekly NASCAR competition.

“This is a seminal moment in the sport where we had a chance to get it right once again and make sure the race cars are race versions of street cars. And I am proud because I believe we have accomplished just that,” Allison said. “The 2013 Fusion is a stunning car and the 2013 NASCAR Fusion is even more stunning and I can’t wait to see it perform on the track and connect with race fans.”

Ford designers, led by Nicoghosian, addressed three main issues to mirror the 2013 Sprint Cup Fusion to the 2013 production Fusion found on showroom floors:

– Address the overall proportion of the race car to reflect proportions found in the production Fusion

– Brand and design cues in the side of the vehicle

– An identifiable front end grill with the distinctive look of a Ford

“It looks fun to drive and very much eager to go and tear up the track. It has a very aggressive stance from the outside and the inside. From all angles the vehicle exudes performance and I think it reflects our general attitude of how we go about setting up our cars very, very nicely,” Nicoghosian said. “It brings a certain level of nimbleness and lightness and agility to the NASCAR platform, much like we do in our production cars, because all of our production cars have that nimbleness and agility and eagerness about them.”

The new Sprint Cup Fusion entries will be tested throughout the 2012 season in preparation for its racing debut at the 2013 Daytona 500 in February.

Ford F150 With EcoBoost V6 Can Deliver V8 Power

The auto industry has begun to see signs of growth, the market continues to adapt to current buyer interests and OEM’s seek to differentiate their offers.

For the most part, when it comes to being a highly capable pickup truck, one has certain aspects to compare with. Generally, these are specs that indicate capacity, power, and also allow for multiple configuration options based on the intended use.

Today, these comparisons are less powerful in terms of swaying a customer in one direction or the other. The technology built into today’s trucks, becomes a bare necessity for what may have been considered extreme not long ago. People are looking for new ways to become impressed, and Ford has taken the challenge on by putting a V6 EcoBoost in place of a V8.

One doesn’t have to crave horsepower, or tow heavy loads daily to appreciate the ability of an engine to provide a good range of power under these conditions. They simply need to experience the difference between one with power and one without. The truck with inadequate power cannot serve the same needs, so when power output is gauged by the number of cylinders, a prejudice against smaller displacement engines being inferior is being challenged and defeated with Ford’s new F-150.

New EcoBoost technology from Ford, which is being used in several of their new lines, includes models such as the new Ford Explorer, Ford Edge and Ford Taurus. The F-150 is aiming to differentiate with this new technology and provide it’s customers with the confidence that Ford is constantly pushing the bar higher.

The Ford F150 has a suggested MSRP starting at $22,415.

Ford F-150 Platinum – A Workhorse With Style

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Ford Motor Company’s F-Series of full-sized trucks has supplied tough vehicles that aim to aid in ‘getting the job done’ since 1948. Today they offer 9 different models in the F-Series. Their top of the line Platinum which replaced the Lincoln Mark LT truck not only gets the job done it does so with the ambiance of an impeccably appointed office.

The best, however, can be pricey. The F-150 Platinum has a starting MSRP of $42,885. The good news is that many ‘would like to have features’ come standard. In fact the voice activated navigation, moon roof, and an axle upgrade are about the only options available for the F-150 Platinum. Want a dual note horn, universal garage door opener, and rearview camera? What about leather heated and cooled 10-way power seats, 57.6 cubic feet of interior cargo space and six free months of SIRIUS? These come standard and are nice, but, the performance capabilities are paramount to most consumers buying at this level. In other words customers want brains and good looks.

Under the massive hood is a 5.4-L EFI V-8 granting 310 horses and 365 lb. ft. of torque. Platinum also comes with Electronic-shift-on-the fly (ESOF), power rack and pinion steering, offers an axle upgrade, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSO), Trailer Sway Control, fully boxed frame, maximum trailer tow package, and trailer brake controller (TBC). The F-150 Platinum also comes with Ford’s Safety Canopy System which gives the owner protection from side-curtain airbags for front and rear outboard passengers and a high-strength safety cage. Also included is a rollover sensor and roll-fold technology which allows the side-curtain airbag to slide between the passenger and the window. Ford’s commitment to keeping customers safe on the road grants five star crash test ratings from both the NHTSA and IIHS which lands the Ford F-150 Platinum on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safercar.gov program’s top safety pick list.

The 12th generation Ford F-150 Series continues to win consumers and extends brand loyalty with the best in performance, luxury, and safety.

2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Customer demand for Ford’s new F-150 SVT Raptor is moving nearly as fast as the world’s only production high-speed off-road performance truck. Already, over 5,300 orders have been placed for the new performance pickup.

The F-150 Raptor is the first ever high-speed off-road performance truck offered by any manufacture and highlights Ford’s 33 years of truck leadership by emphasizing Built Ford Tough innovation and engineering. Developed with the DNA of an off-road pre-runner, the comprehensive modifications to the truck focused on chassis and suspension.

Built alongside the best-selling F-150 at Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant, the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor was designed for the off-road performance market which has steadily grown in popularity over the past decade.

Raptor is powered by F-150’s proven 5.4-liter Triton® V-8 three-valve engine, which delivers 320 horsepower and 390 ft.-lb. of torque. This spring, customers will have the added option of an all-new 6.2-liter V-8 engine, producing 411 horsepower and 434 ft.-lb. of torque – making Raptor the most powerful half-ton pickup on the market.

The appeal of the Ford’s F-150 SVT Raptor extends beyond just desert runners. While the biggest markets for order so far are in the Southwest and Texas, demand also is high in states like Tennessee, Michigan, Colorado, Ohio and Georgia

Customers are showing an appreciation for Raptor’s unparalleled off-road performance, as well as its many features. Options such as the luxury package, moonroof and reverse camera all have “take rates” of more than 79 percent. Popular F-150 utility options like touch-screen navigation with SIRIUS Travel Link™, trailer brake controller and Ford’s tailgate step have take-rates higher than 62 percent.

The overwhelming top color choice has been Tuxedo Black for more than 52 percent of all orders, followed by Molten Orange, Oxford White and Blue Flame.

We couldn’t be more pleased with the popularity of the F-150 SVT Raptor. Orders have exceeded our expectations. The truck is so popular that we actually wound up building more 5.4-liter V-8 models than we had originally anticipated. The order banks are now open for the all-new 6.2-liter V-8, and the orders keep rolling in.
