2013 Explorer Sport Joins Performance Lineup

Monday, April 2nd, 2012
Already available with a peppy EcoBoost I4 engine that delivers up to 28 mpg highway, the Ford Explorer will soon show off the other side of the Blue Oval’s signature powertrain technology in the form of a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that will deliver north of 350 hp. The new model—the 2013 Explorer Sport—also gets outfitted with a hi-po suspension for improved driving dynamics, as well as fresh design cues that spotlight its more athletic personality.
But even so, the Explorer Sport will still have the best fuel efficiency in its class (“gas-engine, high-performance SUVs”), with projected EPA ratings of 17 mpg city/22 mpg highway; that makes for advantages of 3 mpg/2 mpg against the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango R/T with 5.7-liter HEMI engines that deliver comparable power, and bests the Land Rover Range Rover Sport by 3 mpg/4 mpg.
Set to become the range-topping member of the Explorer family, the new Sport version naturally offers drivers a plethora of premium features, including standard and optional equipment like:
■An advanced four-wheel-drive setup with Ford’s innovative Terrain Management System
■Dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control
■Heated first-row seating, with a 10-way power driver’s seat with power recline and lumbar functions and a six-way power passenger seat with recline and lumbar capabilities
■A rearview camera
■SYNC with MyFord Touch driver connect technology
■An up-scale Sony sound system with 12 speakers and HD Radio capability
■A dual-panel moonroof
■Ford’s Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with rear cross-traffic alert
■Inflatable rear seatbelts
“Explorer Sport makes no compromises,” said Carl Widmann, vehicle engineering manager for the vehicle. “By carefully beefing up the chassis and suspension, precisely calibrating the Terrain Management System and adding comfort and convenience features, we’ve delivered an SUV that delivers great dynamics and performance—while towing up to 5,000 pounds.”

Ford’s much anticipated turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine will make its debut in the 2012 Ford Explorer, a three-row crossover with room for seven. Today, Ford released EPA-certified fuel-economy numbers of 20/28 mpg city/highway for the EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. That’s three more mpgs than the current Explorer’s V-6 offering.

The turbo will produce 240 horsepower and 270 pounds-feet of torque. The horsepower is down from the V-6’s 290 hp, but the torque is up from 255 pounds-feet.

The V-6 Explorer had plenty of power during our testing, and we’re anxious to see how the EcoBoost version holds up.

There’s no word on pricing or if the 2012 Explorer with EcoBoost will be more or less expensive than the current V-6 model when it goes on sale later this year. The same engine will be also available in the Ford Edge SUV and the Ford Focus ST. (By David Thomas)

2011 Ford Explorer Ecoboost with V6 Power

Friday, November 5th, 2010

The 2011 Ford Explorer is taking things to a new level by delivering an SUV that captures technology, off road capability and luxury on a combination that’s never been done before. The 2011 Ford Explorer was unveiled recently on Facebook, and was the first time a reveal was done entirely online.

Perhaps one of the best things about the new 2011 Explorer is the technology that Ford has been able to integrate into its vehicles, this new technology is extraordinary from the ability to integrate music and other applications that Ford is allowing developers to create on an open API platform.

The 2011 Ford Explorer has a new unique and sharp looking design both interior and exterior wise. The exterior looks and feels as if it were chiseled from stone, its design exceeds expectation.

2011 Ford Explorer is set up to be able to go just about anywhere with a new off road system, an all terrain system that’s electronically controlled and adjustable. Not only can the Explorer go off road but it has a tremendously comfortable interior.

In addition to the world class craftsmanship in the 2011 Ford Explorer has an optional 4 cylinder engine with EcoBoost, which brings the Ford Explorer to V6 power levels an approximately 237 horsepower. This is done through turbo technology and Ford is taking steps to make it available in more of it’s vehicles.

There’s so many cool features to talk about in the Explorer with customize screens for the instrument cluster, to the Sony branded audio features which produce an amazing quality sound system. Ford Explorer was definitely not rushed, it was done in high quality and attention to detail. The engineers did a terrific job with the design and the technology.

2011 Ford Explorer’s Green Interior Made From Recycled Materials and Focus On The Environment

2011 ford explorer

The 2011 Ford Explorer made such a strong debut when it made its unveiling a month or two ago that it’s not surprising all of the details that went into this new Explorer would bring excitement.

The Explorer has went through not only a design transformation, but a transformation in the impact it has on the environment.

Vehicle manufacturing utilizes an enormous amount of resources and produces unconscionable amounts of waste when being built. Auto manufacturers are taking steps to ensure that this will change, and they’ve done so with the substitution of specific materials that are both recyclable and renewable.

The realization that people are seeking ways to have less impact on the environment makes it wise for manufacturers to develop products that follow this type of thinking.

The Explorer has integrated some specific features of it’s interior that are made exclusively of green materials. These are cleverly implemented to avoid any takeaway from the overall appearance and quality. They are blended in and most wouldn’t know that any change was even made.

Fuel efficiency also plays a role in making the new Explorer a more sustainable SUV. The new Explorer excels at eco-friendly driving with two new fuel-efficient engines. The new engines include a responsive, fuel-efficient V6 and a turbocharged, direct-injection 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost™ engine. The EcoBoost engine delivers more than 30 percent better fuel economy than the current V6-powered Explorer, without sacrificing capability and performance.[source:media.ford.com]

2011 Ford Explorer – World Class Design Marks Strong Comeback

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

The 2011 Ford Explorer is set to make a significant comeback when Ford engineers sat down to plan out it’s reincarnation. The rugged SUV is going to be a style that feels and looks like quality craftsmanship.

The new Explorer will be dialed in from both an interior and exterior quality design. This is going to be a real sharp looking SUV that has all the latest in technology that Ford has been introducing, and the same ruggedness that Ford pickup truck owners depend on from Ford.

The Explorer, however, will be suitable for those who want to see the merge between Ford’s latest interior quality and the strong, durable exterior quality.

The combination of a strong interior and exterior is going to bring the feeling of luxury to the integrity of the Ford truck mantra that is all about quality and craftsmanship.

Ford went to great lengths to ensure that the interior of the new Explorer will be airtight allowing the cabin to keep the road noise out.

If you haven’t experienced the new Ford seats, you’re missing out. The way the seats feel are as much a part of the reason you’ll fall in love at first sight as any other feature you get in a Ford. The cushioning is just right, not too soft, and not hard enough to make long roadtrips dreadful to endure.

Ford has put all of its talent and engineering minds together with this new Explorer, and people will notice all these details when they start arriving on dealership showrooms this year.

At a suggested MSRP starting at $29,280, the Explorer will quite the all terrain vehicle one would expect from Ford.
